This Item Is Pointless - Battery Powered Lawn Edger Critique

By Jacob Russell

Very simple to use and makes edging simple, quick, and easy. I purchased this unit due to all the rave reviews. If working on dense grass, I recommend you give the motor a break every few minutes to allow it to cool. Overall, it gets the job done, but I did notice two design flaws: 1. The wheels are on one side, the blade on the other. Therefore, it won't work close to obstacles since you can't reverse direction. The blade would still spin but I would get build-up in the protective shield around it. Cleaning it out was a piece of cake. We did find that when doing this, since you're pushing the thing over sod and such, it will lift the entire machine up a little bit. So I set it for 1 1/4" depth and did the first run, and then repeated it at the recommended 1" depth to clean up the little bits that were left.

It worked as advertised out of the box. Easy to assemble and operate.

Creates fantastic edges, all my neighbors want to know how I did it. One thing I have learnt though is to keep edging as often as you can.

I was a little disappointed when I found out this edger/trencher didn't really "trench". This is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. Seemed pretty powerful for an electric edger. I found it to be a bit messy if you have never done it before.

If you're not a prime member you should seriously consider it! This also worked great around our landscaping in the back yard. And you can buy replacement blades for it as well. I use two 100 foot cords together to equal 200 feet. I've only used the Edge Hog twice since getting it this week but it's been fantastic. I haven't edged my property for about 10-11 years and the sidewalks were overgrown with grass, vines, and branches from bushes covering up to two feet of the sidewalks.

Unfortunately, edgers like this were unavailable in the local market, so I bought one on line, refurbished with a 2 year warranty. After using it, perhaps twice, the present edger resembled the old edger did...it did not edge. I bought it to replace a much more difficult one to use, a gas-powered one from Sears. Even though it is electric and using a cord is somewhat more restrictive, it does a good job and is easy to use.

I used to use a multi-attachment gas powered edger (with swap out stems for the blower and weed-whacker). The always "ON" power in the B&D edger is far superior to what the gas powered one could do.
