Fixing Mid Back Pain Causes And How To Treat Them

By Michael Pritsker

Most people have experienced back pain sometime in their life. The causes of back pain are numerous; some are self-inflicted due to a lifetime of bad habits. Other back pain causes include accidents, muscle strains, and sports injuries. Although the causes may be different, most often they share the same symptoms. Mid back pain is a kind of pain felt in the area below the neck and above the waist or lower back. The middle back is composed of 12 vertebrae which are part of the thoracic section of the spine. The middle back is naturally strong and even more stable due to the attachments of ribs. The elastic cartilages which are found between each bone serve as shock absorbers and also, there are muscles and tendons that provide stability to the back.

There are many different problems that could trigger mid back pain. Most often, muscle strains are the most common cause of pain in the mid back. Causes of pain in the mid back include poor posture, emotional stress, improper lifting, accidental trauma, tightening of the diaphragm, standing for hours, sleeping uncomfortably, aging, poor intake of sugar and carbohydrates, and overexertion.

Persistent mid back pain could indicate a serious condition, therefore if your pain persists more than a couple of days, it would need medical advice. If the mid part of the spine is directly injured, it can cause malfunction to occur from feeling pain in the mid back to affecting the organs such as the stomach, heart and lungs. Within that spinal region, there are pairs of spinal nerves emitting from the mid back to various digestive parts. Problems in communication with the nerves may lead to numerous digestive disorders and heart irregularities.

The chiropractic doctor will take a thorough history and provide a physical exam. After the assessment, the chiropractic doctor will develop a plan to correct the underlying problems. These will be explained to the patient and then perform it by applying precise and gentle adjustments to the specific areas of malfunction. Non-invasive treatments chiropractic doctors use are spinal manipulation, massage, electrical stimulation and hot and cold packs. Additional services chiropractic doctors provide may include stretching, exercises, and patient education.

Additional services chiropractors provide include exercises, pelvic stabilization, ergonomics, and patient education. Exercise and rehabilitation are very important to prevent the pain from reoccurring. Many patients are relieved from their mid back pain after a few visits and some patients choose to continue care regularly because it keeps their bodies in optimum condition.
