Just Okay - Best Business Plan Software Critique

By Lillian Lopez

AD I had been using QuickBooks 2000 for the last decade for my home business. I decided it was time to get updated software. This program makes it easy to manage income & expenses, complete tax filings and was also a great help in the drafting of my business proposal. I can't say enough about it and definitely would recommend it as a start-up business tool. The two programs have a totally different look and flow to how information is entered and displayed. At first, of course everything looks confusing. But then attempting to update credit card balances, import past investment and banking statements, and make it all work, another story. It was hours of frustration with no resolution. I upgraded to Quicken H&B 2011 from the 2005 version. To be honest, I just don't see how this is really any better.

I used Quicken 2009 as best I could, some things like my credit cards would not download (they still don't). The error message actually directed me to Intuit's website (via an embedded link) to insure that my financial institution was supported. It had a search box and link driven letters to hop right to your institution.

It was well worth the effort and I will not upgrade again before doing major homework on the software. I have been using Quicken 2008 and this is a totally worthless upgrade.

I upgraded from Quicken Home & Business 2010 to 2011. All 3 of my existing saved cash flow reports were corrupted in the upgrade process. He repeated told me to do it the intuitive way which was wrong but could not tell me how to do it correctly. He researched and asked others. Bank of America is going over to a new system most likely by the end of the year, which will make the download feature of their accounts work better (at least so they say). All in all: If it all would have worked seamlessly I would have given it a five, but given the problems I'm having I'm only giving a 3.

You really do want the latest so that encryption standards and security settings are at their maximum. Especially if you use the one step update with Quicken and the password vault.

Thank you Quicken and Amazon! I'm a salary man and occasional freelancer, renting an apartment with a long-term partner.

Thankfully Costco has a great return policy! If I had my choice I would not have upgraded to the new version of quicken.

This is the official position of their support team on their forums. Here is one way you can import Excel data into Quicken.
