How to Keep Mildew and mold from Growing on your Spa and Hot tub covers

By Mariane Alvasse

Hot tub covers are great spots where mildews like to mature. Dampness and moisture, along with dirt and grime enables the growth of these musky fungus. An outside tub that gets a lot of sun is much easier to save from mildew development than one that is found in the house and gets less sunlight. A spa tub cover up protects your high-priced Hot tub from getting damaged by dirt and grime and outdoor factors. When it is under mildew attack, it will not only be ugly but it will also be stinky and very unclean to use. Furthermore, mildew and mold can develop very well into the Jacuzzior hot tub, which can potentially damage the area. This is why it is important to know how to maintain your hot spa tub covers-and your tubs spotless.

There are numerous ways to keep mildew from growing. First is prevention. Mildews hate the sun and make sure to uncover your hot tub always to the sunlight and don't forget to flip the hot tub cover up as well. This is applicable only to bathtubs that are found outdoors. On the other hand, if you have an inside spa tub, you can resort to cleaning agents that you can use. Highly-acidic or alkalinic agents are excellent mildew and mold remedies and many people swear by lime juice or vinegar. Tub tops have foams that may be taken off and cleaned when they soak up too much water. To clean your covers, take off the foam and lightly clean with a combination of 1 part vinegar and 1 part water. Also, after cleaning off the mildew remains, allow to dry totally before putting it back again on to cover the tub.

Aside from this residence solution, you can also use fungicides. apply on all areas of the spa tub covers and leave it on a couple of minutes before thoroughly rinsing it. Also, do this when no pets or kids are near since some of these chemical substances may cause hypersensitivity. You can decide to make use of organic fungicides if you could find one.

Prevent mildew and mold from growing in your hot tub and on your cover up, you must make sure that water in the tub is repeatedly changed and it must always be thoroughly clean after each use and before protecting it with your top. Chlorine bleach is also a potent chemical substance for use in disinfecting your cover up and eliminating dirt and mold. However, when using this alternative, which is one part water and one part bleach, ensure that you do the cleaning in a well-ventilated place to avoid breathing in noxious fumes.

Lastly, another way to avoid mildew and mold for inside hot tub covers is to prevent moisture by turning on the air conditioner or dehumidifier. Mildews thrive on warm and humid air. If you feel like the inside of the house is warmer than normal, turn on the A/C and cool down the air that's circulating within the spot where the bathtub is. If you do not have A/C, there are transportable dehumidifiers that you can buy to ensure that there will be no moisture build-up of dampness close to the spa tub and their tops.
