Forgetting Mansfield's Past

By Sammie Maynard

A couple of years back, there was a magazine that ranked Mansfield as number 24 when it comes to their list of the best places to live in. There are three counties in Texas where the town of Mansfield can be located. Of course it is truly an honor to be recognized by CNN but there is a reason why the town of Mansfield has been given such recognition and this is because of the efforts of the Mansfield Attorney in keeping the area peaceful.

Through the years, the town of Mansfield has always received national attention when it comes to human rights and the American Constitution. It is in this small town that the famous battles with regard to African-American Civil Rights were held. People know this as the Mansfield School Desegregation Incident.

During the 50s, student segregation was evident when it comes to the Mansfield Independent School District and only the white pupils got to enjoy adequate facilities. The practice continued for many years. Three African American students decided to go to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People to complain.

Their actions led to the eventual desegregation of the schools. Shortly after, integration rulings were passed across the school district. This is not the end of this story.

When school began in August 1956, about 300 white students and school personnel held a demonstration to prevent the three black students from enrolling. The governor eventually decided to go with the Whites and so the segregation was put back on track. The governor and school district openly ignored federal court order and sent all their black students to Fort Worth, Texas.

The practice of integration could not be implemented because of the number of rallies that followed. Integration was only practiced in the small Mansfield town in 1965. Mansfield government officials finally respected the ruling from the federal court because they were at a time when funding was needed.

The Mansfield School Desegregation Incident is now a faint echo in history, almost completely forgotten. Nowadays, the town has been transformed into an area that is fully accepting of racial differences. People here are said to be more accepting of racial differences.

In Mansfield, the population is about 60000 and these folks are from different races. More than 65% is non-Hispanic white, 16% is Hispanic, and 12% is black or African American. In Mansfield, you will also find American Indians, Asians, and Pacific Islanders.

In Mansfield, peace and order is maintained thanks to the efforts of attorneys. Here is where businesses are profitable too. In the case of this town, legal practitioners, offices, and services are abundant and you can rely on the quality of these services.

Apart from mediation and estate planning, the lawyers in Mansfield are also well trained when it comes to handling legal matters for business purposes not to mention commercial litigation. The thing about these attorneys is that they are also willing and able to provide assistance when it comes to business contracts. The lawyers from Mansfield do not choose their clients based on the color of their skin.
