Treatments For Genital Warts: Laser Treatment for Genital Wart

By James Melbourne

According to the world-renowned Mayo Clinic, there is little evidence that common, natural cures for genital warts, such as apple cider vinegar, castor oil, and aloe, are effective to treat venereal warts. The lack of evidence from studies of these home remedies suggests that they are a waste of time. So what are these folk remedies that you've probably heard mentioned elsewhere online? Here are the three most common natural cures for genital warts:

Natural Cures That Don't Work- Apple Cider Vinegar - With this home remedy, you apply apple cider vinegar to your genital warts. Take a cotton ball and soak it in apple cider vinegar. Then squeeze out the excess vinegar so that the cotton ball is not dripping. Use a band aid to keep the cotton ball on the wart for at least 30-45 minutes day (preferably overnight but the vinegar stings a lot). You'll need to repeat this treatments for genital warts every night until the warts develop scabs. At this point, you can cease the application of vinegar. Do not peel the scabs off. Let them fall off naturally. After the scabs have fallen off, repeat the process to make sure you've killed the virus.

Actual Result: While the vinegar may initially remove part of the wart, the wart usually grows back. There isn't scientific evidence that shows that this process permanently removes venereal warts! Aloe - Aloe is a plant known for its healing properties. Some say that these healing properties will help treat warts if you apply aloe until the wart heals. Actual Result: While aloe does have protective properties for the skin, aloe does not remove venereal warts. There is no evidence to show that it kills the HPV virus that causes genital warts.

Some standard treatments for genital warts work well with warts on the genitals. Cryotherapy uses cold liquid nitrogen to freeze and kill the wart; laser therapy uses heat to burn it off. You can get these done for genital warts, and they can be very effective. However, given the location of genital warts on our bodies, these types of methods may not be useful. So what else can we do? Your doctor can arrange for you to have a number of specialist medications on prescription. These include trichloroacetic acid, podofilox, podophyllin, and imiquimod. These come in cream or lotion form and are applied topically.

There are some side effects though like pain, swelling, discharges and sores but then if carefully cleaned and checked by the doctor leads to fast healing. After surgery the patient is usually advised to refrain from sexual contact and to ensure there is no bleeding, pain or swelling. Any unusual result like fever or smelly discharge can indicate that the wound is infected. You will need to inform your doctor about this.
