How Internet Marketers Can Improve Their Customer Service Skills

By Eunice P Chee

How do most people decide how they feel about shopping at any store? Most likely, the attitude and customer service skills of the sales staff would be a major factor! Most likely, when you consider whether to return to a certain business, retail store or restaurant in the future, what determines your decision is the kind of customer service you received there in the past.

Customer service is the name of the game and yet, so many internet marketers completely ignore customer service as they work to build their businesses. While the internet does afford one a certain level of anonymity that does not mean that customer service should be overlooked altogether! You can use these tips and suggestions to start providing better customer service to your website visitors.

Whenever anyone buys from your site, don't forget to thank them by e-mail. This can be done in a completely automated manner; simply have an automatic message sent to all your customers thanking them for their purchase. You can create a simple, thanks for your order e-mail simply by setting up a feature offered by most e-mail services that allow you to send out automated messages. Don't forget to do this!

Wouldn't it be worth it to send out this automated e-mail if it motivates people to become repeat customers? Be sure to proof read your e-mails, sales and web pages before posting them or sending them to anyone. You don't want to have your copy full of spelling or grammatical errors. When visitors see your website or blog, that will be the first impression they have of you.

You can set up certain hours that you will accept phone calls and publish them on your site. Then actually be at your computer during those hours. Being available to talk to people will also probably mean more sales for you, as people will feel more comfortable buying from someone they've spoken to rather than just another random website or blog.

Giving support for products or services is a good idea.

Some people have a harder time with technology than others. Customers will really like the added feature of getting free technical assistance, should they ask for help. It will also encourage them to recommend you to their friends. You have to have good customer service to get good word of mouth advertising. Customers will see that you are thinking about more than just how much money you can make when you offer free support. You'll increase your business this way. Customer service shouldn't only be expected for offline businesses.

There is no reason to think that good customer service is only necessary in traditional businesses. If you continually disappoint your customers with a poor standard of customer service, you will find that they never return to buy from you again. Good customer service is often what makes or breaks a business-even online. What policies have you started to keep your clients pleased with your service?
