Guernsey In The Chanel Islands What A Great Place To Go On Holiday

By Steve Smith

I am writing this short note while sat on the ferry after having holidayed in Guernsey for the week with my family.

I am sufficiently lucky to get spend quite some time on this wonderful small island with my work but it's only the second time that my family have come with me. We stayed in a friendly hotel in Guernsey named the Rocquettes which is located in the harbour and capital of Guernsey St Peter Port.

St Peter Port or town as the Guerns call it is the capital of Guernsey and is a great place to stay when checking out the island with plenty to do and see. It is completely full of quaint tiny shops and as the island is VAT free there are some great little deals available.

There are some excellent fish restaurants in Guernsey that cater for all tastes and being a harbour the fish eateries are particularly good with heaps of fresh locally caught fish on the menu.

There are also some great friendly boozers on the island with plenty of character and some that serve good food including "The Swan Inn" in St Peter Port which is listed in the Michelin guide, or maybe the boozer on the beach at Cobo Bay where you can watch the sunset while enjoying your favourite.

The beaches on Guernsey are impressive to say the least as are the cliff top walks with amazing views, and anybody who likes to do a bit of fishing couldn't go to a better place. I took my son George and my Dad in law out on a fishing outing with one of the local fisherman and cannot believe the number and variety of fish that we caught. We even got the chef back at the hotel to prepare our evening meal with a number of them.
