Finding the Right Methods to Help You Cope With or Get Rid of Physical Stress

By Delora Minnerly

There are many kinds of physical stress, and in some cases it can sneak up on you gradually. In its early stages, stress can be low key as it effects various parts of your body. One common symptom of stress is muscle tension, which may be hard to notice at first. However, at some point, it may manifest as lower back or neck pain. You can enjoy better health if you learn how to cope with stress sooner rather than later. Fortunately, there are ways to effectively handle stress, and we'll be exploring some of them here.

If you suddenly wake up and realize that you haven't been paying enough attention to your body and have let your stress levels grow unattended, if you are able to, you should immediately get up and start to exercise. It might be a good idea to have your doctor look you over first--depending on your age and circumstances, you might need a physician's okay to exercise. When it comes to working through some of the stress you've been keeping inside, one of the best things you can do is some aerobic exercise.

You receive significantly less oxygen when you breathe higher up in your chest, as your diaphragm is not moved in the same way. Your body can remain much more relaxed and stress free when you breathe correctly. Your blood also becomes more oxygenated, which has an energizing effect on your body. To help ease yourself into a regular workout, begin with some stretching programs and then build your way up from there. A lot of people do not believe that stretching can be helpful but here are some reasons that it can.

Good physical and mental health will result from taking proper care of your body. The uninjured parts of your body still need to be exercised. Your levels of stress will be much less if you keep your spirits high. There are many types of exercise that you can do for many different body parts. Stress levels can even be reduced by taking time for total body and mind relaxation. Stick to whatever stress reduction program you choose as much as you are able to do so.

There are lots of stories coming in, all within the last fifty years or so, about the people who have cured themselves through laughter. They had documented medical conditions, and then they specifically focused on using humor to feel better. They used anything they could to help themselves laugh, comedic movies, etc. The main goal was for these people to teach themselves to relax and then to enjoy life and to lighten things up at least a little bit. Some people, though are really serious and are not ever going to change so this approach probably won't work for them.

The goal is to keep the stress you feel from producing physical problems for you, so do whatever you can to keep that from happening. There are many methods you can use to cope with, or eliminate, physical stress, but you have to be honest with yourself and admit what's going on. Next, you'll customize a plan for you. If a method doesn't work for you or if it doesn't feel right, don't quit. What you need to do instead is try a different method. Keep trying until you find the one that works best.
