Most cab operating companies will specially modify some cars to serve needs of disabled persons. Due to the small number of these vehicles, the disabled person may end up waiting for longer periods for a specialized car to be available. Sedans are arguably the most popular models for taxis but SUVs and minivans are also being used as cabs.

A vehicle could be easily modified to accommodate a passenger on a wheelchair by adding a ramp and clearing some space in the cabin. To enhance comfort on a bumpy ride, special means of securing the wheel chair should be put in place. Unfortunately, with this modification, a car that could sit up to four people can only carry one passenger on a wheelchair.

The cab drivers usually surrender an agreed fee to the fleet owner before beginning their rounds to regain the sum and make extra cash for their profit. Some companies opt to have their own drivers who are paid a percentage of the daily earnings. Many dallas taxi cab have a dashboard mounted digital meter that displays the mileage covered and the due charges for the customer. Fleet monitoring mechanisms include GPRS systems and two way communication between drivers and the central office.
