Things To Think About Prior To Going To The Color Run 5K

By Sarah X. Felix

In the days before the Color Run 5K, runners should prepare by keeping a few things in mind. Besides being ready for a 5k run, or walk, participants should remember that the run involves a lot of color bombs thrown onto participants and should plan accordingly. Runners would do well to keep these tips in mind.

It is a good idea to get the packet with event details as early as possible and a white shirt as well. Usually, the packets are available on the Thursday and Friday immediately before a Saturday run. If the run is being held on a Sunday then the packets get handed out on the Friday and Saturday before. The packets are given out beginning at 10 am and running until 7 pm both days. Anyone picking up a packet should have identification with them. Finding or buying a white shirt well before the date is also important. The runner should make sure the shirt is comfortable for both running in and for getting color covered.

But remember that the Color Run 5k isn't just about the white shirt and everything else is probably going to get brightly colored as well. The color will be everywhere by the end of the event, including all of the runners' clothing and skin that isn't covered up. So, runners are always advised that it's important to cover anywhere that could be sensitive. To ensure that light color hair doesn't get discolored, using a leave-in conditioner or using olive oil or coconut oil in the hair will help protect it. A bandana is also a good idea to protect the hair. The best protection for the eyes includes aviator style sunglasses or even goggles or glasses that wrap around.

After the Color Run San Diego the simplest way to remove the majority of the color from the body and clothing is to dust it off. Since it is simply tinted corn starch, a lot of it will come off in this way. However, when the color gets wet it can tend to transfer its color, so dusting off as much as possible before getting it wet is a smart idea.

With a little research and planning, runners in the Color Run 5k can have an experience of a lifetime. The most fun will be had by those who plan to get their shirt and packet as early as they can.
