The Splendor Of Vintage Opal Rings

By Alan Brenner

The word "Opal" originated from the Latin word opalus, which is closely influenced by "opallios", a Greek word. The opal gem begins to form when mineraloid gel, is absorbed in the cleft of limonite, sandstone, basalt, and marl rocks, and then finally became distinguishable when it freezes at the low temperature. Mineraloid gel is a watery substance which could be taken into account for the three to ten percent, and as much as twenty percent water content in Opal.

Opals have been widely distributed in Australia and are formed when the water of our early planet enriched with silica swamped in the landmasses of this continent and absorbed by the sedimentary rocks. Vintage opal rings implanted with the gem have various colors including plain white, black, yellow, orange, olive, green, blue, and rose.

Similar to a butterfly each of its rings has its own color pattern. An opal possesses a background hue with a mix of colors running transversely in it, just like a sky with a rainbow. For example, a black opal has a strong black background with blaze of colors like red, white or blue across it. These rings create a brilliant and dazzling effect when exposed to the light.

The light that falls onto the surface of the opal produces luster, which is reason for its gleaming quality of shine and capability of generating different continuum of colors and has primarily brought the opal into the epitome of fame. The opal is believed to symbolize good luck and wealth by people from both the ancient and modern world. According to an Arabic belief it has glided down from heaven.

William Shakespeare referred to them as "The queen of Gems", and these will remain a constant center of women's attraction. Opal rings have been a charming gift used by men to create an effect of woo and express their love and care to their other halves. These vintage opal rings have replaced the old tradition of giving bouquet of flowers. Vintage opal rings possess a unique quality since many have been created manually.

The vintage opal rings, similar to ancient memories, possess an appeal for both jewelry collectors and the brides to-be. Opal rings have been commonly used by brides who opt to wear marine gems as their engagement ring and treasure them.

It should be kept in mind that opal gems are very delicate in nature and they need to be handled well to retain the moisture. To keep the moisture intact, one should always shy away from any heat and wear the opal ring on a daily basis.
