I was walking through my neighborhood one time the moment another person blocked my way and told me to give him the things I had. So I did. I took it out of my pocket and whacked his wrist with it. He yelled and grabbed his own arm before getting away.
I live in an unsafe neighborhood, so I am constantly ready for trouble. That is why I happened to have a keychain kubotan for defense versus that guy who tried to rob me.
A kubotan is extremely helpful. It's a small stick like an oversized pencil or ball pen with a flat end or a pointed tip. Mine fits nicely within my pocket and is conveniently concealed. It is linked to my regular key chain, which makes it much more conspicuous and easier to carry on me.
Kubotans work well whether used to attack bony portions of an attacker's body or jab more padded portions. Good points to aim at are his knuckles, forearm, shin, stomach, ribs, and groin. You can also hit the bridge of his nose or poke his eyes with it.
I hold my own kubotan like an ice pick, or what is called a "hammer fist" grip, or stab using it like I would with a knife. It's also good for putting on pressure to specific areas of an attacker's body in order to hurt him, in what are called pressure point attacks. Furthermore, I can punch a lot more effectively with it because it hardens my own fist when I grip it.
Kubotans are made of hard plastic, or of aluminum, just like mine. They may be very light, but they are pretty tough.
A kubotan features two important advantages over other handheld personal protection weapons. Initially, I don't need any kind of special training or skill to use it. Second, as there are no laws or regulations governing its use, I had no problem buying one. To many people, it is just another key chain.
Since it is so small and simple to use, I really think that a keychain kubotan for defense is perfect for me.
